You can run any program you want using the terminal if you make a kicad or blender space close kicad or blender and download the app you want and you can run them

Noted

the Docker containers from linuxserver use Selkies, and Selkies has an option to relaunch applications when they close, and disable the terminal. I can do that for Blender and KiCad, but I'll allow the terminal for VSCode. VSCode is more locked down anyway (you can't install packages) so I think this is a good fix
