Grid support

There is a lot of demand from the citizen science community (and scientific community) in Belgium for support for Grid systems in GBIF (like UTM).
What should be possible in the future :)

• click on an UTM square and retrieve the occurrences in the UTM square and retrieve the species list in that UTM square.
• Choose or work (upload) with own grid system
• Create heatmaps based on grid system
  ...

Indeed! This has been a problem for a long time.

• The conversion of data collected in grids to circles has been a major degrading of high quality data.
• Furthermore, it has never been fully recognized that all biogeographic modelling work is conducted on gridded data and that gridded data are considerably more useful than circles.

I don't think there are any plans to do this in the near future, but I think it might be possible to geocode coordinates to that grid system...
