wine-ge is outdated because proton-wine repo isn't getting new versions #232
Comments
Do you think sunsetting it would be a good idea? I'm thinking of redirecting users to use umu instead. |
It's historically been very useful for me to have a proton-patched wine that games work with that further patches can easily be applied to with nix for testing. I was using wine-ge here for this. I think umu doesn't fit this role. |
We could just patch it ourselves, but at some point those patches will bitrot. |
Will see if building the ValveSoftware/wine that https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom 's wine submodule points at + the patches from its patches folder works. |
any update on this? |
Nope, sorry! Haven't got around to trying it yet. |
no problem, would love this update though as currently this is the only nix wine-ge package i could find, and is outdated |
It looks like Proton-GE now uses ValveSoftware/Wine directly and a folder of patches against it.
GE's proton-wine repo is what the update script uses and it hasn't seen a new version since Proton8-26. The related wine-ge-custom repo is archived. https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/wine-ge-custom
