Use case

You haven't release a new version but your development branch is progressing. You want to display on your UI the commit hash of the current build of your debug version.

Proposal

Showing the commit hash related to the current build.

Some initial work have been done there git_info_plus it would be better supported/maintained among the fluttercommunity repo

From your initial message it looked to me like you wanted to have that git_info_plus under Flutter Community organisation, not add the feature to package_info_plus.

I was expecting this feature from package_info_plus since it's where I can get the version, build etc. then I found the unmaintained git_info_plus package and thought the organization may be interested starting from someone else initial work.
