Distributed search (across Globus/Solr indices)

With Solr, we "federated" search by distributing across multiple shards. Can we add this functionality at the API level via search across multiple Globus and esg-search/Solr indices. If not, create an issue suggesting an alternate approach.

Since we are converging on a single Globus Search index, do we need this?

Sorry I missed this question. The issue is how to search across external Solr hosted in Europe, etc. so we can preserve the federated user experience.

From the most recent discussion during a project this sounds like its going to be a "won't do" and instead we will document and refer users to search data in other portals, hence CMIP data will not be federated worldwide until ESGF-NG is launched.
