Auto-complete emojis (after a colon) just if there is whitespace (or nothing) upfront

Currently, the emoji auto-complete also gets triggered when you’re writing time (like 20:00) or finish a sentence with : (like in See this: Tada).

Sure, but as soon as you hit space or twice 00 it is closed again. I think that is the same behavior as Riot Web.

Would be cool if that auto-complete pane would not show up if the colon is prepended by a non-whitespace character. :)

It's super easy to implement it (just a boolean to change to true here), but I think the usability is less good.

As I also feel a bit annoyed that the emoji suggestion appears when I tap : to actually type :, as @bpcurse said, it's easy to move it away by just ignoring it and keep typing.

Another argument to stick on the current implementation: if we change it, it prevents user from typing several emojis sequentially. You will be forced to type a space between each ones, and it may have the side effect to switch the keyboard back to letters mode, which is super annoying.

Also, as @bpcurse said, it's the same behavior on Riot-Web.

I keep the issue open, for any other Pros and Cons

Edit: Just show emoji-autocompletion when prepended by whitespace or (implicit colon of an) emoji.

Hi, Can we do that like in Slack, after the first letter after the colon ?

Because in french we have a space before the colon like that -> "Voilà un exemple_:_foo" (translation "Here is an exemple:_foo" ).

So your solution work in english but not in french 😅
