Multiframe TIFF, huge memory consumption while genarating Tiff with 100-500 pages.

Hi,

I’m using Magick.NET and would like to create a multi-frame TIFF file (20–1000 pages) from tiff, jped by processing one image at a time. The goal is to:

• Load each image individually (e.g., from FileStream)
• Process it (compress, etc.)
• Write it directly to the output TIFF
• Avoid keeping all frames in memory at once

Currently, using MagickImageCollection requires loading all images before writing, which increases memory usage significantly, and running out of memory.

Is it possible to write each image directly to a multi-page TIFF (page-by-page) using Magick.NET or Magick.Native?
If not, could this be supported through a custom extension or lower-level access?

Is there any sample for it?

You will need to load all images when you want to write them. You cannot write each page individually.

I’ve been exploring how JPEG compression works in TIFF (per the TIFF 6.0 spec and the JPEG Tech Note 2), and I’m curious — is it actually valid to embed an existing JPEG file as-is into a TIFF without decompressing and recompressing it?

From what I understand, if you strip off the SOI/EOI markers and set Compression = 7 (JPEG), along with the proper tags like Photometric = YCbCr and JPEGTables, you can insert the raw JPEG bitstream directly into a TIFF strip or tile. That would be super helpful for preserving image quality and avoiding expensive decode/encode cycles, especially when dealing with lots of JPEGs.

Is that approach officially supported by the TIFF spec? And is it something that works reliably across most compliant TIFF readers?

Would love to hear your thoughts or experiences if you’ve worked with this!

I have no experience with that so I cannot answer your question. I think you will need to take a look at the tiff spec and check what is possible. I am sorry but I don't think I can help you.
