cannot install crystal_toolkit

I am trying to run some of the tutorials in vscode with the jupyter extension and it asks me for crystal_toolkit extension but I get a bunch of errors.

What is happening?

digging around it appears that the module named pipes doesn't exist anymore...is there another way to install this module?!
