Having 'Color by user supplied parameter' in the Timeline tool is quite useful. To make corresponding displays from other tools, it would be useful to have that option elsewhere, too.
I'll open sub-issues for the cases I'm most interested in.

Where's the code for this? Did it ever get integrated? I don't see it on master in the projections repo.
