ROS Iron will reach EOL in November 2024. By that time, ROS Jazzy (May 2024) and Ubuntu 24.04 (May 2024) should be available with patches. We should consider upgrading ROS and Ubuntu to the latest LTS versions, ideally before the 2024 Fall semester.

Due to its compatibility with Jetpack and Jetson device, we might need to use ROS version that is compatible with Jetson. Jetson Orin series runs Jetpack 6 which is Ubuntu 22.04 based. It can run ROS Humble (EOL May 2027) and Iron (EOL Nov 2024) (ref). Or we could run ROS Jazzy by compiling from source (ref).
