I am pretty sure positions used to be based on footprint anchor, and changed to center, at one point, causing me a lot of messing about.
I know I can set a position offset, but that too is causing issues. I am setting on my footprint, which seems most logical. But sync to schematic strips that out, and then you have to update all footprints to get it back. At least once if have managed to send an order to JLC with several components misplaced. They coped, but annoying.
I'd prefer to have an overall (saved) setting to default to anchor. That way I can ensure my foot prints are positioned and rotated to match JLC.
I could add Origin Anchor, obviously, but that would have the same problem of being striped out when sync from schematic.
Of course what would be nice is if footprints in KiCAD included not just the anchor for the placement on PCB layout, but optional extra points for "pin 1" and "centre" (sorry, "center") which seem to be the common ways things are done.
So thoughts.
A default "origin" option on this FT so I can set to anchor and move my footprints.
Raising with KiCAD team to allow extra "origins" on footprints?
Both maybe. And FT could have defaults of anchor, pin 1, center, or auto center, then.
