Description
Hi, this might be my specific issue—please feel free to close it if it’s not relevant.
I recently purchased an ASUS G14 gaming laptop and installed Omarchy. It worked like a charm—honestly, it’s the perfect setup in many ways.
However, I ran into an issue with battery life and constant fan noise.
I know gaming laptops generally have poor battery life, but I tried several CPU and fan management tools (such as asusctl and other power management utilities). These helped a little, but I’m not sure if I configured them correctly. Even during light usage, the fans often run at full speed, which is quite noisy.
For comparison:
When I installed Garuda Linux (Hyprland version), battery usage and fan noise were much better—quiet most of the time, with no overheating.
However, that setup had a problem with external monitors (e.g., Apple Studio Display). I had to install proprietary NVIDIA drivers and follow many command-line steps to get it working. It works now, but I’m worried that future Garuda updates might break the configuration.
Since DHH is committed to supporting Omarchy, I reinstalled it and want to invest more time in making it work as my daily driver.
If there’s any guidance, documentation, or recommended configuration for managing ASUS fan speed and battery life within Omarchy, it would be extremely helpful.
Thanks again for the great initiative!
