I don't know if it uses the CAN bus, but if it does, it can be very useful for third party navigators.

Hi Alessio, no I didn't and as far as I've looked none of that information is present on the main CAN bus.

In the specs there's a second CAN bus called the AV bus or similar and it has only two devices on it which I believe are the display and the Navi unit (under driver seat??), it would be interesting to get in there and connect a logger to that bus...

Thank you for the quick reply. Have you any idea how to connect to that bus?

You basically have to splice the two cables (H & L) in some place.

After looking at the J10 manuals, there are three places where it's easy to access the AV COMM (H) and AV COMM (L) cables:

  1. the M47 connector at the back of the head unit.
  2. the M12 and B2 connectors somewhere under the handbrake (B2 plugs into M12)
  3. the B96 connector at the back of the NAVI unit under the driver seat.

Look at AV.pdf and PG.pdf for details. In the nissan wiring, CAN cables are always pairs coloured L (blue) & P (pink). In some connector descriptions in the manuals, it says CAN-H and CAN-L for the main CAN bus, and AV COMM (H) and AV COMM (L) for the AV CAN bus. In other places you have to guess it from the colour codes L and P alone.

The M47 connector is an 8 pin (2x4) connector, the AV comm pins are number 23 and 24.

The M12 / B2 connector is a 24 pin (2x12) connector, the AV comm pins are number 13 and 14. (18 and 19 are CAN-H and CAN-L)

The B96 connector is a 32 pin (2x16) connector, the AV comm pins are number 69 and 70. (71 and 72 are CAN-H and CAN-L)

Thank you so much, you were very clear.
At the moment i have not the hardware to investigate, but I hope this will be useful for someone else.
