App doesnt load

I've installed the app, got past the unverified published notification, and the app just keeps bouncing then stopps. Im running the latest MacOS Sequioa 15.1 on an intel mac.

Thank you for the report and for taking extra steps to try the app (working on removing those).

I ran Penpot Desktop on a clean macOS 15.1 installation on an M1 (the closest setup I can get, no Intel), and it works as expected.

The fact that it simply stops is unfortunate, any kind of pop-up would be more actionable. However, did you use the “Penpot-Desktop-0.3.2.dmg” package? The app builds to architecture-specific packages, not a universal one.

Yes I did use the latest 0.3.2, its quite odd because its like its going to open and just bounces in my dock for about 5 mins then stops.

UPDATE

• I've just tried v0.3.1 and im still getting the same issue
• One thing I also find quite odd that I've just noticed is that when it stopps bouncing, its like its opened but not showing anything, because it shows up in my running tasks...

Update on loading issue on my intel mac, the app 0.4.2

I'm still having the same issue where I'll try to open it once installed, the system mentions unverified app so I have to go into settings and click open anyway, once I click that, the app bounces around for about 20 seconds, then stops. It doesn't open at all, but in the Activity Monitor, it shows up an app process:

The app also shows up in the Force Quit menu

For clarification on how I'm installing the app: I use the mac.dmg file, drag the app into the applications folder and open it once installed.

I couldn’t find a way to test on an Intel Mac, but did some searching and found a promising fix. The build with the fix applied is available from a separate branch, here - scroll down to Artifacts, download build-macos-latest for a package with the installers.

I've just tried installing the newer version with the same issue, is there any sort of logs or something that I can provide? I'm also installing the app using the 0.4.2 dmg file.

I'm happy to use my intel mac for testing as you said you only has an Apple Silicon mac, so I'll do my best to help! :)

Thank you, let's give it a go. If you could try running Penpot Desktop from the Terminal, it may produce useful log info.

The command is:

open --stdout ~/Downloads/penpot-desktop-stdout.txt --stderr ~/Downloads/penpot-desktop-stderr.txt /Applications/Penpot\ Desktop.app

open - it’s macOS’s official command line tool for opening files (in this case the app’s file)
--stdout ~/Downloads/penpot-desktop-stdout.txt / --stderr ~/Downloads/penpot-desktop-stderr.txt - setting these arguments will direct console output to files in your Downloads directory
/Applications/Penpot\ Desktop.app - is the default location of the Penpot Desktop application file

In a correctly working app I couldn’t see any user-specific data, but please double-check and anonymise any paths, logins and so on.

I'm really sorry but I'm not too sure what to do from here, I've just pasted the command in and received an error, I've tried multiple different things but keep getting the same error:
The files /Users/USER/—stdout, /Users/USER/Downloads/penpot-desktop-stdout.txt, /Users/USER/—stderr, and /Users/USER/Downloads/penpot-desktop-stderr.txt do not exist.

The 10673 is an umbrella error for cases when an app can’t be opened. One of the reasons can be not passing a Gatekeeper check - the unverified app notification. As Penpot Desktop app is not signed, it’s the most probable reason.
