New scarf seam settings for a less prominent Z seam

2-

Eight new experimental settings have been added that make tuning the Z seam on your prints easier, including options for using a scarf seam. A scarf seam is created by varying the flow rate at the start and end of a line to merge the seam together, reducing the prominent bump of a traditional seam. It is named after the scarf joint used in woodworking. Visit our Thingiverse page to download these 3D printer sneakers to try it for yourself.

Support added for the new UltiMaker S8

2+

The UltiMaker S8 was just announced and is now supported in Cura. The S8 is the newest professional desktop printer in the S series, and it achieves up to 4x the speed of its predecessor while also improving print quality. That is possible thanks to the new UltiMaker Cheetah motion planner and new high flow cores, all of which will be usable at launch with Cura! Learn more about this printer here.

Support for the 3D SpaceMouse by 3Dconnexion

2+

Support for the SpaceMouse has been added in this release. Commonly used in CAD and 3D design software, a 3D mouse makes working with 3D models more precise and efficient. The SpaceMouse, along with the CadMouse, are a perfect fit for Cura and should help make your 3D printing workflows more efficient, especially when switching between Cura and CAD or design software. A big thanks to 3Dconnexions for helping to make this integration possible!

Conditional statements for start and end G-code

2-

It is now possible to include conditional statements such as If/Else statements when editing the start and end G-code in your machine settings. This allows you to set up much more complex printer automation that responds to things such as the status of your printer or user input. Learn more about the possibilities on our wiki.

Upcoming changes for USB-connected printing

2+

In Cura 5.11, USB printing will no longer be enabled by default. New users will need to enable USB printing manually if they wish to use it. Anyone who printed using USB in Cura 5.10 can continue printing as normal. We have added a hidden settings ‘Enable/Disable USB Printing’ to help make this change flawless. Note that this refers to having your PC and printer directly linked via a USB cable, not printing with a USB hard drive.

More reliable printing over sparse infill

2-

A new setting has been added called "Extra Infill Lines To Support Skins" that can be used to add additional lines within infill to support the skin layers above. This, alongside some other small improvements, can make printing using low infill percentages much easier and more reliable.

Keep printing over cloud – quick action needed

2+

A quick heads-up for anyone using Digital Factory to print over the cloud. To keep things running smoothly, you may need to update to a workspace. We made some changes for non-subscribed users in November 2023, and if you haven’t updated yet, now’s the time! Just click here or check your account settings—it should only take a few seconds and does not require a paid subscription. If you have already joined someone else's workspace without upgrading your account, you may still need to make a workspace. Please follow these support instructions to find out how!
