Is there a way to prevent re-renders of a custom block that uses contentRef?

I have a custom component that has hooks attached to it and when I change something in the contentRef component's input it calls all the hooks at once.

Please describe the solution you would like
I want the controlled inputs to become uncontrolled.

Please describe the alternatives you have considered
I can't think of one.
