inspired by the feature in apple's ios 18.x podcasts.app (behaves very similarly, but on a larger scale to lyrics in music.app), it be great to have these "subtitles" along side our favorite books

i see this happening in one of two ways:
apple intelligence generative transcription. what i don't know is how processor intensive this is, or if apple has opened this up to developers.
according to some apple podcasts.app documentation on the matter, you can supposed provide your own sidecar .srt or .vtt files.

This feature is very cool, I once studied this topic and came to the conclusion that I did not find a means of automatic file generation by track.
And creating it yourself or for the user is not the best idea, since you need to specify the seconds when it should shift to the next line of words
