I know this would take a lot of programming work, but it would be great to be able to connect to a jellyfin server, and have BookPlayer act as a client for jellyfin in order to play the audiobooks on that jellyfin server. While jellyfin officially supports audiobooks, the clients I know of for jellyfin don't do a great job of providing a good audiobook listening experience.
BookPlayer, on the other hand, does a great job of providing a good audiobook listening experience. Getting audiobook files from my jellyfin instance into BookPlayer is not seemless, however. It would be amazing if I could just browse all the books on my jellyfin server and then when I wanted to play one, it could start by streaming it from the server and then in the background download the entire book from the server so that book is in place locally in BookPlayer (like any other book that is there).
Audible works somewhat like this, with all the audiobooks that have been purchased in the past visible, but only some of them downloaded. You can show a view of only the downloaded books, or a view of all the books available.
There is a related discussion (here: #608) which deals specifically with files in iCloud, and a comment mentions how it would be great to include other options like Plex. My request is similar to that comment about Plex, but is more specific and focused than just being able to view files placed in iCloud.
I think the concern in that discussion (about not getting BookPlayer into vender-specific territory) is legitimate, but I think the benefits of being able to connect to jellyfin (or Plex or the like) would well outweigh the concerns, at least in my view. As far as jellyfin vs Plex, jellyfin is truely open source, while Plex is not, and this is the draw for me to jellyfin.
