Authentication Error

I tried to add Seleno to an app that uses Windows auth. Seleno successfully creates an IIS express site but when I access it I get an authorization error:

Error message 401.2.: Unauthorized: Logon failed due to server configuration. Verify that you have permission to view this directory or page based on the credentials you supplied and the authentication methods enabled on the Web server. Contact the Web server's administrator for additional assistance.

Can you run the site using IIS Express from Visual Studio successfully?

Yes. The only configuration we have is to disable anonymous auth and enable windows auth. I tried swapping those values and still get the same error.

Does this message happen on CI only or on local computer too?

Local. I have not tried CI yet.

Interesting. Does the same thing happen if you spin up a blank mvc site and try it? I wonder if it's something to do with your web.config or your machine or ...

Blank mvc site works until I swap to windows auth.

Hmm, interesting.

Given it works when you run it without Seleno I suspect this won't work, but I'm curious about whether this helps?

For posterity, this issue was happening for me because the IIS Express configuration didn't contain the correct authentication settings. VS 2015 stores IIS Express config per-solution in .vs\config\applicationhost.config. This file contains the correct auth settings required for integrated auth:

Running IIS Express from the command line for the project uses the usual %userprofile%\documents\iisexpress\applicationhost.config which doesn't have the correct configuration, results in a 401.2.

Running IIS Express from the command line using the per-solution config results in a site with the correct auth settings.

This can be used in a custom web server implementation for Seleno (below).

I also had to use the Chrome web driver as I couldn't get Firefox to use pass-through authentication on localhost.
