Block type suggestion: "Diagonal slab"

This block can be seen as a double-sided version of a stair or corner block, which is both upside down and the right way up at the same time. Like a slab, it takes up half of the block it's in.

Here's how such a block would look, scaled up and created out of full blocks:

They could be placed in all six directions. Double versions would also exist, which would like with slabs be full blocks.
