Request to add SSC as train protection system

Hi there,
I'd like to ask if was possible to add SSC (Sistema Supporto Condotta) in the signalling page. This system is active in most of the not electrified lines in Italy ~2500km of lines. Without the existence of this rendering, mappers use the tag railway:scmt=no as there's no scmt on those lines but, with the lack of the visualization of SSC the lines appear with no train protection (as shown in the screenshot). So wrong information given to the people reading the map.
Adding this rendering would also mostly cover all the lines that actually have no information about the signalling in Italy.

@AwFi0919 Do you have a suggestion for a colour which does not conflict with other colours used in Italy or neighbouring countries?

maybe something similar to SCMT as it's partially derived, like pink (FFAEC9)? or deep purple (9F61B8) or changing to a very light brown (F09B59)? The first two should be different enough from scmt and ETCS, the third should be quite different compared to ZSI 127

Hi! I added SCMT to the code so let me comment :)

• before adding any new system I would humble ask to wait for a decision on this PR, that could very much simplify the code MOD: new grouped tagging system for train protection #118 Some of the wrong information mentioned in the first post is exactly caused by the current method of rendering train protection systems
• We might discuss a bit about SSC since it's officially being replaced by SCMT (and both are being replaced by ETCS)
• I volunteer to do the PR adding SSC if useful, color shouldn't be an issue

Hi Davide, nice to see you here, I saw your huge work on SCMT and I have to admit I started this discussion also because i saw that you tagged one line (maybe a few years ago) with the tag of SSC, and I'm currently trying to cover all the lines with it.
I understand that SSC is being retired but, in my opinion, it's still important as many lines and quite a lot of km of line are covered with it. RFI plans to switch to ETCS all the lines,and some probably without upgrading to SCMT in the meantime and the proposed deadline to complete this switch of train protection system is like in 12 years, and a pair of recent presentations to CIFI already show some delays ont his program.
Given this SSC might be useful for quite a lot of time, also considering that FNM or other infrastructure managers might keep it for a longer time.
Anyways, if your proposal simplifies and solves problem there's no hurry for implementing SSC before it, thanks for volunteering to do the PR, I'd not be able to do that.

Yes, it might survive longer on some regional network... I'll do a PR for it (but later).
