Open Shell overwrites Lock Screen

Installing Open-Shell-Menu causes the Windows lock screen to be fixed to one of the default lock screens Windows offers. While it is still possible to select a different image as lock screen in the Personalization options in Windows, this has no effect on the image displayed. Even deleting the image in question from Windows\Web\Screen has no effect.

Thanks for mentioning this, we were looking where this came from and can certainly be related to Open Shell Menu.

Try to exit Open-Shell - right click on Start Menu icon (or shift right click, depending on your settings) and select Exit.
Open-Shell should be inactive now.

Does it fix the lock screen issue?

If not, then try to uninstall Open-Shell to see if that helps.

Exiting Open-Shell fixes the issue. After exiting Open-Shell and restarting my PC my lock screen was the one I had set in my Windows Personalization settings. The same happens when I uninstall Open-Shell.

This would seem to make exiting Open-Shell every time before shutting down the PC a functional workaround for the issue.

So if you exit Open-Shell manually and then reboot, then after reboot Lock screen behaves normally?
Even with Open-Shell running?
Then when it starts to behave incorrectly?

If I exit Open-Shell and reboot I get my normal lock screen. Open-Shell then starts running on start-up and if I reboot again I get the unwanted default lock screen.
In essence, if Open-Shell was running when I shut the PC down I get the wronglock screen and if it wasn't running I get the correct one.

Nor what exactly to look for :(

Open-Shell shouldn't interfere with lock screen functionality.
It looks like explorer.exe misbehaves on your machine somehow on reboot when Open-Shell is loaded.
Don't you have some other 3rd party software loaded in explorer.exe?

It happens to me as well, but I didn't know that workaround about closing the program before shutting the computer down. Also, windows tends to load the system while in lock screen from turning it on, but with Open-Shell it does not, I actually have to enter the password for it to load the system, and it's not because of the option about reopening things with a startup because I have it on, it's not a big deal actually but it's kind of not how I want it to behave

Just an idea, but could this be related to the power options in the shutdown menu? It seems possible that the commands in the Windows Start menu have a special command to activate the lock screen image.

By the way, I haven't noticed this myself, but I could see if using the "Lock" or "Sign out" commands in OSM causes this to happen. You can ignore this if the same behavior happens with OSM running but you sign out with a different method (Ctrl+Alt+Del, for example).

Might this have something to do with 3b71c37? I haven't been able to reproduce but it may be related to the old API being used.
