clickable links

I've noticed that clicking links causes the target location to open in place. Is there an option to make them open in a new tab by default? That would be more convenient imho.

Hmm, I think there should certainly be an option to do that for individual links, but I am not sure I would like to change literally all links. One can always use Cmd-Click (on a Mac, and I'm sure there is an equivalent on Linux/Windows) to open in a new tab. But happy to discuss.

I know you can make links open in a new tab (middle click is what I use) but my point was to make them do so by default. Might be personal preference though.
If we agree that it's a behavior we'd like to have throughout the book, I can volunteer to edit all links.
The markdown syntax would be:
<> link{target="_blank"}
according to a web search.
