Recent emoji list not updating

Describe the bug

The "Recent" tab on the Heliboard emoji list only shows 5 emoji, and is not updating with new emoji that are used. I searched recent issues and there were none listed. If there are any logging or debugging steps I can take, I'm happy to do so.

Expected behavior
Sending an emoji that is not one of the 5 listed in the recent tab should add that emoji to the tab, at the beginning, to be able to be used for the next message written.
