In the recipe for the earth_dist dataset, the source file is currently stored on Paul's FTP server.

SRC_FILE=ftp://ftp.soest.hawaii.edu/pwessel/AC2011/dist_in_km_to_GSHHS.nc

My concern is that someday the FTP server may no longer exist, then we will lose the original source file. So we should either backup the source file or find exactly the commands to produce it.

In that FTP there are these four files:

Parent Directory -
dist_in_cm_to_GSHHS.nc 453M
dist_in_km_to_GSHHS.nc 459M
dist_in_m_to_GSHHS.nc 450M
port_dist_no_Kerguelen.grd 4.0M

What options do we have? Publish them on Zenodo?

dist_in_km_to_GSHHS.nc is used in the recipe, so at least this one should be kept.

The easiest option is to upload the file to the GMT data server.

In the same data server? Ok.
