What is the meaning of the FDP index status indicators?

The FDP index shows the following status indicators:

• active
• inactive
• (valid)
• invalid
• unknown
• unreachable

What is the exact meaning of these indicators?

The answer can be found in EventService.processMetadataRetrieval, IndexEntry, and IndexEntryMapper:

• UNKNOWN: initial default value for every new IndexEntry
• UNREACHABLE: metadata retrieval request failed altogether (in MetadataRetrievalUtils.retrieveRepositoryMetadata)
• INVALID: metadata retrieval succeeded, but metadata either cannot be parsed or does not include valid RepositoryMetadata (in MetadataRetrievalUtils.parseRepositoryMetadata)
• VALID: successfully retrieved and parsed metadata, including RepositoryMetadata
• ACTIVE: VALID and time since last retrieval is less than threshold specified by IndexEntryService.getValidThreshold (see IndexEntryMapper)
• INACTIVE: VALID and time since last retrieval exceeds threshold

Note that IndexEntryState does not define ACTIVE or INACTIVE. Those are only defined on the IndexEntryStateDTO and assigned in the IndexEntryMapper.
