Courseography automatically logs you in to Facebook

I was able to connect to Facebook from Courseography (even though it won't allow me to post yet). However, it seems that once I am logged into Facebook independent of courseography, it automatically connects Courseography to your Facebook (without asking for permission).

As well, when you log out from Courseography, it logs you out of Facebook in general (if you go to facebook.com in the browser independent of courseography, you're also logged out).

So it seems Courseography decides whether to log you in or not based on whether you're logged into the regular Facebook website, and Courseography doesn't notify users of that. Is that a feature we want? I personally think it might be better for users to choose whether they want Courseography to connect to their Facebook or not, each time (unless there is something like a "Remember Me" option). But at the moment, users don't get a choice - in order for Courseography not to connect to Facebook (after the first time they connect), they have to log out and stay logged out of Facebook overall in their browser.

Hmm. I agree this would be nice; I'm not sure how to accomplish this.

Both log in/out functionalities are performed by Facebook when we initialize the SDK, and these are the default behaviours for both. It is noted here (and in 2.2/2.1) that Facebook enforces that the logout functionality logs a user out of the application and from Facebook. That doesn't mean that we're out of luck if we don't want this behaviour. I believe that the way to accomplish this would be to 'revoke login permissions', however I'm not certain what the outcome of doing so would be.

The Facebook page that I linked does have a good argument for why we should leave it the way it is.

@Ian-Stewart-Binks Ahhh I see, good point. I only mention this because:

1. Users might want to log in to Facebook without connecting it with Courseography, or be able to disconnect from Courseography without having to log out of Facebook.
2. Some people who are antsy about privacy might not want the current functionality - Courseography connecting them automatically.

It's just a possible suggestion, for users who might be very privacy-aware, since I was unaware of this functionality until I ran into it - especially since you are working on a privacy policy as well.

I can definitely see why some people prefer it. I think I also expect it to behave the way that you're suggesting, much how like slides.com and duolingo work (the only websites that I've used (in recent memory) that have Facebook applications).

Setting it up the way that you suggested also may make it easier to handle setting up our own user system that co-exists with the Facebook log in (much like that of... slides.com and duolingo).
