Add server development messages

Messages should be added to the server to help development, such as indicating when the server is running.

Update: there already exists quite a bit of informal logging using standard I/O functions. There are two main areas of improvements

• Log the database queries (it would be very helpful to have a record of what queries were made, and what was returned)
• Use hslogger for all logging purposes (this would involve switching out the existing print expressions)
