Shadows cut off before render distance

The shadows close to render distance appear lower quality (set to high, appear lower).

this is not really noticeable without bushy leaves but it's really annoying with, which is why i've added them to showcase this issue
also it doesnt happen with all other shaders i've tried except rethinking voxels ofc

There is the "Shadow Distance" setting in Shader Settings -> Performance Settings that controls this.

Yeah you will need to set your shadow distance a bit higher than your render distance if you want to get rid of this effect, because of technical reasons. Don't worry about the performance though, the shader won't calculate anything beyond your render distance even if you had shadow distance set to maximum.
