A philosophical question for @doutriaux1 and @davis278 !

What is CDAT ?

The home page gives an overview of CDAT, but it is hard to assimilate because the page is a bit cluttered.

I don't know what can be done about that but the CDAT users at PCMDI could have a brain-storming session to come up with something shorter, reducing the use of fancy words like synergistic approach and Within both paradigms. Maybe this is targeted at the U.S. Sponsors, but the U.S. Sponsors section of the home page is empty anyway...

In my opinion, CDAT is a Python distribution for the climate scientists, that includes specific packages developed at PCMDI in the course of several iterations of IPCC and the CMIP database (give the idea that it was developed and used by experts of the field and that using it will make your life easier, improve your Nature output 10 times, all the while reducing your carbon footprint and saving the whales). You could litterally write that it is taylored for the climate scientists :-)

The install page should clarify this by giving at the top a detailed list of the specific PCMDI packages that will installed, along with the other main packages. And you can link to #190 to specify that you can also install stand-alone versions of the packages
