Non-deterministic workflow detected, dynamic

I'm looking at making my durable function more config based however hit an issue with Non-deterministic.

Does context.wait_for_external_event support variable for the method or does it need to be hardcoded?

In the below example, steps contains an array list of actions

 for step in steps:

        typeactivity = step["Type"]
        typeparm = step["TypeParm"]
